Vehicle Description

1995 Jeep Wrangler S Some will argue that 1995 was the last year for the YJ, some will argue 1996; we've never seen a titled '96. Regardless of splitting the year's hair, the last YJs off the line are arguably the best. Many of them benefitted from the larger 297x size front axle U-joint. Some of the last YJs got the TJ-style rubber windshield rests instead of the U-shaped style that ran for 40 some years, and the later YJs off the line got what many refer to as heavy duty cast aluminum tailgate hinges instead of the stamped steel hinges that were on YJs from the first. MotorTrend.com, Jan. 2010  For consignment, a 1995 Jeep Wrangler S with a title verified 152,912 actual miles. Our consignor states there are 4,000 miles on the engine and trans swap, but there is no documentation for us to verify. Like so many Wranglers in our midst, this one has been personalized with modifications that individuate this one and it's safe to say, very well be one of one with this exact configuration.  Exterior When we enter the room for our visual interrogation, we're faced with a unique front end that begins with the last year of the YJ square headlights in chrome bezels and flanking a screen mesh over the grille which mutes the familiar bold grille openings. We look beyond the bug guard to gaze upon the air intake rising from the hood like some kind of funny car, then chrome bodied spotlights on the side compete for your attention. It's definitely different and the 3 lift kit makes this one stand out, and stand tall on deep 15-inch American Racing wheels with 35 tires with a mid 2021 date code. In profile, the Flame Red body is underscored by the band of black created by the wheel flares, rock guard, and side steps. Up top, a Bimini top is on board and a full canvas enclosure, including side windows, comes with the rig. Imperfections include rock chips across the front fascia, various chips and inclusions throughout, touched up scratches, and some untouched scratches including a few big ones on the red roll cage.  Interior Black textured plastic door panels present cleanly with some dings on the driver's side, looking fine on a rugged Jeep. Inside, it's newer Corbeau Baja bucket seats in front, and they recline for chilling at sunsets at the beach, (or sunrise, for those of us in the east). The black vinyl of both is in great condition as is the standard gray cloth and vinyl bench in back. A simple steering wheel fronts a dash that includes an added tachometer and a row of the standard gauges embedded in black plastic coves, all looking good. Diamond steel plate dress the housing for the shifters over a barren black floor.  Drivetrain The original engine has been swapped with a 350ci V8 featuring Edelbrock E-Street heads and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Our consignor states that the engine has 4,000 miles on the engine swap, but there is no paperwork to back this up. It's mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and power run through 4.56 gears at both differentials, the rear being a Ford 8.8 unit. Headers are on board and so are power brakes. A bird catcher scoop sits atop a high rise intake on the carburetor.  Undercarriage Clean underneath with some red bits that include the rear differential cover and traction bar as part of the leaf spring suspension in back. Leaf springs are up front too and the whole ride gets a 3 lift. Power disc brakes are on all four wheels and dual exhaust runs from the headers to trail down the sides through glasspack style mufflers, then promptly exit outward.  Drive-Ability A YJ with a small block Chevrolet engine? Count us in! We crank it up and point the hood scoop towards the test loop where this high rider runs well, provides plenty of oomph, and tracks straight. You'll have a bird's eye view of traffic or if you're so inclined, to the rocky path ahead! Other than the heater blower, all functions work as they should on this big tire rig.
