Vehicle Description

1928 Ford Model A Roadster Candy paint emerged during the 1950s and '60s as custom car enthusiasts sought innovative ways to make their vehicles stand out. Several pioneering figures played significant roles in the development and popularization of candy paint. Often credited with creating the iconic Candy Apple Red color, Joe Bailon's innovation led to a full spectrum of candy paint colors. His technique involved layering a transparent color coat over a metallic base, followed by a clear coat, achieving a rich and vibrant finish. Bailon's work extended to customizing cars for celebrities like Zsa Zsa Gabor and Dean Martin. Thecandeshop.com For consignment, a 1928 Ford Model A Roadster showing 3,517 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Built from a decent original car, according to our consignor, the car now sits as a fully customized street rod, a shining example that harkens back to the earliest days of hot rodding. The car was completed in 2018. Exterior House of Kolor Candy Apple Red paint coats this all steel bodied rod that sits low to the ground on 15-inch wheels dressed in wheel covers augmented by red rims and wide white walls. A tubular bumper in back falls below blue dot tail lights and a round decklid with chrome hardware and trim peppering the view. Twin straight pipes provide the exhaust ports dropping down from the capped headers in front. And speaking of the front, a shortened grille shell is protected, in theory, by another chrome tubular bumper, flanked by big headlights wearing decorative visors and enhanced by visible steering and suspension components. A non foldable, removable white vinyl top is in nice condition as is the paint and body. Imperfections include minor scuffs, rough surfaces in seams and at corner of decklid, and scuffs on the rear apron. Interior White vinyl is embellished with red trim and a button tufted insert on the door panels, setting the tone and palette for the rest of the interior. And indeed, the bench seat follows suit in both pattern and condition which is nothing short of show quality. Red piping really pops off the white and oxblood seatbelts bring it all together. A white steering wheel fronts a white dash decorated with pinstriping and the polished instrument cluster faceplate frames Stewart Warner gauges. The floor takes an opposite approach, framing red on white borders and housing a Lokar shifter with a Desoto knob and white shift boot. There's a Bluetooth radio on board and a phone charger. Meanwhile the trunk is fully finished with red carpet and white vinyl and houses the battery. Drivetrain It's really part of the exterior and in that light, show worthy! It's a 330ci Hemi from a 1956 Desoto, putting out 220 horsepower and wearing a pair of 2-barrel carburetors. Headers are on board with removable caps and the engine is backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission routing power to a Ford 8.8 in back. Finned and polished valve covers accompany some chromed components and coated headers for a nice presentation. Undercarriage Clean conditions are found underneath where the dual exhaust come off the headers and flow through Thrush mufflers, then continue their trek to the back. Power brakes are onboard as front disc and rear drum while suspension includes a transverse leaf spring in front with a 4 Superbell drop axle and a 4 bar with coil overs in back and hairpins all around. Drive-Ability The Hemi comes to life and emits a very nice exhaust note and we'll keep it in the back for now. There's obvious power on hand and the car tracks straight and is about as close to an adult go kart as you can get, and by that we're talking low, fast fun! Every function works as intended and it's off to find its place under the lights in the showroom. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
